Julia Olijnyk obtained a Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing from the State University of New York at Buffalo and thereafter, subsequently completed a Master of Science degree with a major in Medical Surgical Nursing from the University of Rochester, whereupon she was conferred the privileges of practicing as a clinical nurse specialist.
Upon graduating, she was hired by the University of Rochester to practice in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology, as Coordinator of Cardiology Research, where she coordinated research for St. Mary's Hospital, Strong Memorial Hospital and Rochester General Hospital, as well as took as a position of Clinical Instructor in the Graduate School, instructing graduate students in physical examination.
.....After moving to Washington, D.C. in 1981, she worked in numerous areas of medical, surgical and intensive care nursing until 1983, when she first considered a career in the legal field. Employment in law firms for five years, however, made her realize the direction of her career dream would be in a different path.
Hence, due to an entrepreneurial spirit, and a sense of adventure, in 1989, she started her own medical legal consulting practice, which has been amazingly successful and continues to this day. She has had cases from Alaska to Florida, Maine to California and as far away as the North Pole, Turkey and Germany.
In 1995, she decided to pursue a Post-Master's NP Certificate Program at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, which she completed in 1997. Upon graduation, she was hired by the George Washington University, Medical Faculty Associates, where she works part-time in the Department of Medicine.
She has published chapters in the Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice and Adult Primary Care textbooks on Medical-Legal and Ethical Issues in Nursing in 2001, 2006 and 2008.
