Recertification Process The CNLCP recertification process can be completed by:

1. Retaking and passing the certification exam prior to expiration of your current certification OR

2. Submitting the renewal application with established points of credit. You must meet the defined eligibility criteria at the time of renewal.

Candidates electing to renew by examination shall contact the testing corporation directly via phone or email for a testing application. Candidates renewing by points of credit shall complete the renewal application and submit it to the testing corporation prior to the end of the month in which your current certification lapses. It is recommended that you submit your renewal information at least 30 days in advance to the testing corporation as continuing education/points of credit are reviewed based on the eligibility criteria.

Points of Credit/Continuing Education Requirements

The CNLCP CB points of credit renewal system are designed to encourage professional development. It allows the CNLCP to select from a variety of educational activities that meet professional and personal needs and to renew the CNLCP credential a total of 60 points of credit are needed every 5 years for renewal.

Points of Credit can be earned through:

1. One hour of approved nursing continuing education pertaining to life care planning=1 point of credit.

2. Presentations = 5 points of credit for each presentation for which national or state approved continuing education has been granted to participants to a maximum of 10 per renewal period.

3. Test question submissions = 1 point of credit for every 5 questions for a maximum of 10 points per renewal period. This does not apply for members of the Item Writing committee. Questions should be submitted directly to the AANLCPCB through website or email

4. Formal Course Work = Course outlines should be submitted to AANLCPCB in advance of the application for renewal for review and approval of contact hours.

5. AANLCP or AANLCPCB participation = 10 points of credit per year with documented or verified annual participation will be awarded. Participation is defined as 85% participation on the committee. The maximum points of credit that can be earned are 20 points.

6. Professional Journal Publication related to a nurse life care planning, article should be submitted to AANLCPCB in advance of the application for renewal for review and approval of contact hours.

Change of Address

It is the applicants responsibility to notify PTC Testing Corporation about any change in address from time of initial application. Renewal notification reminders will be sent to the candidate at the address of record with the testing corporation. Please note that notification to the Association does not comprise notification to the testing corporation.
