ERIN O'CONNELL, MSN, MBA, RN-BC, CNL, CNLCP, CCM

My name is Erin OConnell, MSN, MBA, BSN, RN-BC, CNL, CNLCP and I am seeking your vote as President Elect of the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners. I have worked in the nursing field for over a decade.  My clinical experience is in a multitude of nursing areas including the ICU, Telemetry, ER, Long-term Care, Rehabilitation, Same day/PACU, and as an adjunct college instructor. My career has afforded me many diverse experiences and opportunities which have deepened my appreciation and respect for the field of Nurse Life Care Planning.

I’m compelled to continuously learn and stay involved. While I hone my life care planning skills working for myself and subcontracting for others, I also serve as the AANLCP’s research committee chair; I co-developed the research website, and I am currently authoring and co-authoring chapters for the next edition of the Core Curriculum. The research committee’s goal is to enrich and expand resources available for Nurse Life Care Planners; and this is something I support as your Executive Board nominee.

I also serve as the Education Committee Chair for the West Virginia/Upper Ohio Valley Chapter of the AALNC. During my time as the education chair of this virtual chapter, we have provided multiple educational webinars. Because of the chapter’s educational opportunities and our communication efforts with the nurses in the field, our membership has more than doubled. Also, I have served on the AALNC webinar committee.

I currently work as the clinical nurse leader (CNL) in a long-term care setting while I continue to develop my life care planning practice.  I provide the education and mentoring for the RNs and various support staff. I have developed an online educational series for two of our medical campuses focused on long-term care, rehabilitation, and hospice care.

I see the position of President-Elect as a unique opportunity to lead our group in enhancing education, advancing research, and providing support and opportunity for professional success to all Nurse Life Care Planners.  Achievement in these areas will ultimately lead to our ability to expand trust and confidence across the LCP community and our clients.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to serving this group and wonderful community!
